Early Life and Challenges: From Mexico to the United States
Marlene Rosas’s journey begins in Mexico, where she spent her childhood and part of her adolescence. Her parents emigrated to the United States to work, leaving Marlene and her two brothers in the care of their grandparents and aunts. Although she was surrounded by love, the absence of her parents instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility. When her parents returned to Mexico, the family moved to a new state, where they attempted various businesses that ultimately did not succeed. This period of relentless effort despite repeated failures inspired Marlene to persevere, particularly in her studies.
Eventually, her parents returned to the United States for work, leaving Marlene and her brothers once again with their grandparents. This separation forced Marlene to mature quickly, balancing her studies with household responsibilities.
Transition and Adaptation: Embracing a New Culture
Two years later, Marlene and her siblings joined their parents in the United States. Adjusting to a new country and culture during her adolescence was challenging. Enrolling in Eastside High School in Paterson under the ESL program, Marlene excelled in mathematics but faced a significant language barrier. Through perseverance, she earned her high school diploma.
Marlene’s fascination with computers began in college when her father bought a computer for the family. She initially enrolled at Berkeley College but later transferred to PCC College due to financial constraints. There, she changed her major to Office System Management, inspired by the diverse and engaging environment created by her professors, particularly Edward Mosley, whose dynamic teaching style and thought-provoking discussions left a lasting impact on her.
Overcoming Obstacles and Achievements
Throughout her education and career, Marlene faced numerous challenges, including lack of transportation and harsh winter conditions. She often relied on public transport, arriving early to school and spending time in the library to study. Despite these hardships, she excelled academically, earning high grades and even being offered a tutoring position for accounting students.
Marlene’s life is characterized by a balance between personal and professional responsibilities. She has learned to separate her work from her personal life, ensuring that personal issues do not interfere with her job. Her dedication to her family and work exemplifies her ability to manage time effectively and maintain good habits, setting an example for her children.
Faith and Family: The Pillars of Strength
Marlene’s faith in God has been a central pillar in her life. A profound spiritual experience during a church service brought her immense peace and strengthened her relationship with God. Since then, she has been actively involved in her church’s charismatic group, alongside her husband, spreading the word of God and finding solace in her faith.
Her goals are deeply rooted in her desire to set a positive example for her children and to continue contributing her best at work. She believes in the importance of passion and dedication in her role as a buyer, ensuring that inventory levels are maintained, and solutions are found to any problems that arise.
